The Gloucester Old Spot...

We are proud to announce that following in the footsteps of Sister Pub 'The Royal Oak, Prestbury', we have become a Freehold Pub!

This means that we have a guaranteed future as a pub (provided our lovely customers continue to support us!) and in the near future we will be investing in the garden and carpark. Look out for other changes along the way.

Who are we?

The Gloucester Old Spot is run by a small team of staff who are proud of the pub and what we have achieved so far. The kitchen team is run by Head chef Shawn, and is supported by Ben and Sean.

Front of House is run by Manager Hayley and full time staff Nicky and Ollie, and both teams are supported by dedicated and enthusiastic part time staff.

All our food is cooked on site using local ingredients, this allows us to be flexible in our menus. Our Evening menu changes every two months and is supported by Chefs 'Evening Specials'. We also offer a two courses for £12.95 at lunchtimes from the chalkboard as well as a lunch menu. Our chefs are happy to change dishes to suit you, and if you fancy something thats not on our menu, why not ask us if we can help? Menus can be found under the 'Food and Drink' heading at the top of the page.

Lots going on over here! We are making preparations ready to close for refurbishment, and getting excited about the changes that are coming. Our Burger night is stil going ahead every Friday night in the bar, and its becoming really popular.

We have some more events coming up for to look out for which i will write about in the next few days!

25/04/13

Well St. Georges day has been and gone and so have all the pies! Thanks to all who made the effort to celebrate St. Georges with us.

Our first Friday night Burger evening went well, with plenty of bookings already for this weeks Burger Night. We'll be serving Morrocan Style Lamb, Horseradish, Herb and Beef and Pulled Pork and BBQ sauce this week so dont miss it!

18/04/13 Friday Night becomes Burger Night

This week we are launching our Friday night Burger Night! We'll be offering a choice of three burgers served with handcut chips and homemade coleslaw.

Pulled Pork and BBQ Sauce
100% British Beef with Mozzarella
Lamb and Mint

A great alternative to cooking at home and a great excuse to get to the pub and enjoy a glass of wine or a pint of Beer after work!

Make the Weekend work for you!

12/04/13 Change is coming

We met with Mel, our designer, this week to look at the plans for the changes we will be making to the pub to create a more comfortable and interesting place to eat and drink. The food is already at a high level but our beloved pub building just needs a little more help to really shine and be its best!

Mel has some fantastic ideas and some great fabric samples that will really bring the Old Spot interior to life.

We will also be making some changes in the garden. A lot of it is neccessary boring things like drainage but we will also be investing in new Patio furniture and creating a better space to enjoy the (hopefully) fantastic weather we have coming.

We hope to hear back from the bank and get plans in motion shortly so you can look forward to hearing more from us as time moves on.

29/03/13 Easter Weekend

We love Easter- extra days off work (for some of us!), a chance to spend time with family and friends. Its the first Bank Holiday after Christmas, to really relax and catch up with people and we love it!

The pub is full of people doing just that and with our two courses for £12.95 offer running and the log fires lit against the cold, we dont blame them. Who says Spring is always Warm and Sunny?!

22/03/13 April New Menu

This week we've started to look at menu changes and what our April menu might hold. April and May are great seasons for local produce, with a lot of the winter comfort foods giving way to lighter dishes with plenty of green vegetables like Asparagus.

With Jersey Royal New Potatoes coming into season, along with Asparagus, Rhubarb, and of course Lamb, the choice of combinations is endless; however Chef seems to have narrowed it down.

The new menu will have exciting dishes like Charred Asparagus with grilled Halloumi and Watercress. A dish packed with anti-oxidants and vitamins. Asparagus alone offers Vitamins A, C, E and K!

We buy as much as we can locally, so we are really looking forward to Wye Valley Asparagus, and Local Lamb, followed by home-picked Rhubarb and Apple Crumble!

18/03/13 Beer and Cider Festival

Never happier than with a project to be working on, we are currently talking about a May Beer and Cider Festival. Looking to tie in with the launch of our new garden, and to celebrate our 3rd year at the Gloucester Old Spot, we hope to offer a variety of Real Ales and Traditional Ciders.

Please keep your eyes open for further updates!

14/03/13 Race Week

This week its Cheltenham Race week, and we've seen the business grow again, with an expanding number of coaches and breakfasts in the morning and after-race diners and drinkers increasing in number from last year.

Located just ten minutes away from the racecourse, but without the argy-bargy of the town centre bars, we offer a relaxing retreat from a day’s racing. A chance to reflect on the day, enjoy a quiet drink and get warmed up by the log fire and off those high heels!

Our chef has carefully selected a menu this week that shows off the finest of local ingredients including a variety of Gourmet steaks from Gloucester Sausage Company, our local butcher less than 1/2 mile away!

So whether its Breakfast to start the day, or a drink to celebrate.. We would love you to visit.

04/3/13 Race Week is coming...

Here at the Old Spot, we're gearing up for a week of Racing and Hospitality. We love the chance to show off the pub, and hope to see many new faces as well as familiar ones!

Head Chef, Shawn is creating a menu for Race-goers to showcase his culinary skills and the best of local ingredients. We're really close to the Racecourse and the motorway, have plenty of flat parking for coaches and motorhomes and can offer some great hospitality.

Hope to see you!

Hayley and team.

28/02/13 Mothering Sunday

it’s not too late! If you haven’t already booked, we still have some tables left! We'll be serving from 12-7.30pm and we still have a few later tables available.

Here at the Old Spot, we are getting ready to welcome Mums and their families into the pub to help celebrate Mothering Sunday. We don’t offer an over-priced Set lunch, because we don’t think our normal Sunday lunch needs any help!

Always a busy day, here at the Spot, Sunday is a great day to visit to see the pub at its best. Great atmosphere, and log fires as well as our selection of (of course!) great Sunday Lunches and to finish, how about one of our homemade desserts! Mmmm I could just fancy some Sticky Toffee Pudding now!

To book for Mother’s day, please ring 01242 680 321

15/02/13 Post Valentines

I think the florist with my flowers must be lost, or perhaps the order got muddled up with some other paperwork- either way they never arrived and him indoors is in Big Trouble! That’s not to say that every man out there forgot.

Lots of you booked tables and enjoyed a romantic evening in the candlelit dining room next to the log fire (and you needed it- it was cold outside!) Extra bonus points to the blokes who dropped flowers off or remembered to order a bottle of their other half’s preferred wine in advance.

However, the award for my most favourite couple goes to the elderly ladies who told me they come out together every year since their husbands passed away to reminisce about the time they spent together and to enjoy the warm fuzzy feeling that Valentine’s Day creates.

02/02/13 The beginning-

We took over the pub three years ago in May. Within that time we've seen staff and locals come and go and we've developed what the pub has to offer. Time is flying fast and things happen all the time. I plan to update our blog regularly so you can see what’s been happening here and watch with us as the business continues to grow, change and hopefully expand.

We are a traditional country pub, but we hope to never stand still! We can always be better, and offer more, and because of this, we embrace feedback and use it to help grow. Please do get it touch.

Hayley
